boat house

It happens sometimes when you are paddling in the quiet ocean ... The air is crisp and the water is mirror. You are not rushing, just keeping the steady pace. Solitude. Time slows down. Where are you? There is no sense of self, just the pure experience, bathing you in quiet joy and awe.

The project captures this state. The intent is to create an interior so clear  that visual barrier between the indoor and the ocean  melts, an interior, where you can see through materiality of things and objects. Here you are able to absorb fully the beauty of the nature and  to achieve deep contemplative states.

Minimalist, but soulful, this interior is serene and calm. The main theme is the transparency. Big spans of ceiling-to-floor windows and glass partitions contribute to the sense of openness and  seamlessly merge indoor and outdoor environment. Light fixtures made of  clear handblown glass with its irregular and fluid shape remind you of the water running off the paddle. The focus point object, Bubble Chair by Eero Arnio, is itself transparent  and doesn’t obstruct the view. Organic shapes of the furniture and fixtures remind you about  elaborate patterns of waves kayak traces on the water surface.  Warm natural textures of wood and textiles soften the rigid architecture of the boat house.  The big openings, subtle palette of light neutrals and lots of white result in abundance of light. Pops of light turquoise add visual interest. C

The great gift of living on the water is an everyday opportunity to watch the beauty and the wisdom of the nature. The essence of the project is to make the “view” as clear as possible.
